- Apprenticeship Programs – which is a combo of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction under a trade professional.

- Employment Skills Programs – which is training or education to acquire the skills required to obtain employment, advance in employment, or adapt to the changing demands of the workplace.
- Job Training Programs – which prepare individuals to perform specific tasks by providing information about tasks associated with employment.
The HIRE VETS NOW Fellowship Program facilitates these internship opportunities between Virginia Values Veterans Certified companies and transitioning service members, veterans, and spouses. Networking with the program can begin as early as 18 months prior to separation for military members by attending networking events. This program is a Navy Region Mid-Atlantic approved SkillBridge program but all branches can apply. The 6-12 week internships are eligible to applicants up to six months before separation.
In addition to the HIRE VETS NOW Fellowship Program, the VDVS has these other employment resources.
- The Virginia State Approving Agency (SAA) validates and approves education and training courses as well as programs to be pursued by veterans and eligible persons.
- The Virginia Military Spouse Liaison is Virginia’s Military Spouse advocate. They will conduct outreach and provide advocacy for military spouses and their families.
- Military Education and Workforce Initiative (MEWI) assists veterans and service members with their transition from active duty to civilian life. They help enhance employment opportunities for Virginians who have served in the military and their spouses by providing a pathway to education, training, certifications, and technology.
- Virginia Values Veterans (VS) Transition Program offers transitioning service members and their spouses the best Virginia has to offer. They provide peer-to-peer support through the transition process.
