Colorado School of Trades

The Colorado School of Trades in Lakewood, CO was established in 1947. They have a unique hands-on system that utilizes project-oriented and customer-provided training geared to educate individuals who are wanting to become Gunsmiths. The school was operated by the Snyder family until 1990, then was bought by Sawtooth, Inc. 

The school is in a 20,000 square foot facility and accommodates up to 160 students. New classes start on the 2nd Monday of each month and run for 14 months. They don’t take traditional breaks so a two-year program can be completed in 14 months. The classes are Monday through Thursday, from 7 am to 3 pm. All instruction is project and customer bases. 

The program consists of:

  • Basic Course
  • Machine Shop Course
  • Stockmaking Design and Function I & II

The school is approved for Veterans’ Assistance programs including the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.
