Alright, guys, we talked about a personal inventory and starting there, identifying your strengths and weaknesses. The next step is defining success.

Don’t just jump into the job market and start looking for whatever’s available, actually take the time to sit down. Now, if you’re a bachelor and you have no one else in the decision-making process, you’ve got to sit down and define success. But maybe you have a husband or wife that has input into that decision. If you do, you sit them down as well, and you identify, what are the top three things that we’re concerned about

It may be location. Hey, we want to live in Ohio. Totally get it, and that’s going to restrict you in terms of industries, functions, and jobs. But if that’s a priority for your family, that’s great, you just refined success.

Or it could be a certain industry. You’re willing to move anywhere in the nation, you just want to work in a particular industry.

It could be salary, it could be a title or position, you’ve got to determine what’s most important for you and once you’ve done that, then you can start looking at potential industries and jobs that you think are going to be your future.
